Nordic Walking with Pip Bateman
Making the most of the 'Green Gym'

Pip instructs Sarah Beany Nordic Walking is the latest revolutionary full body workout that you can do anywhere. You can work the upper body whilst you're walking by using specially designed Nordic Walking Poles.

Originating in the 1930s when cross country skiers devised a way of training in the summer months using just poles, it wasn't until the 1980s that what is now known as Nordic Walking really began.

In the late 1990s 3 key organisations in Finland collaborated to develop this emerging recreational activity. INWA (International Nordic Walking Federation) was formed in 2000 with the aim of promoting Nordic Walking globally. Nordic Walking arrived in the UK in 2005 with British Nordic Walking forming in 2008.

Today 20% of the population of Finland Nordic Walk and it is estimated that there are now over 10 million Nordic Walkers throughout the world in over 20 countries.

Nordic Walking enhances your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing, Nordic Walking becomes a genuine whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running.
