Final News Update - Spring 2008

 

Newstead Healthy Living Centre was set up at the end of 2002 with a £999,700 grant from the New Opportunities Fund, now the Big Lottery Fund.The centre was originally funded until December 2007.

This funding was extended for a few of the projects until the end of March 2008. All lottery funding for the Healthy Living projects has now ended.

So, what is happening to the Healthy Living projects?

Nurse Practitioner Service

This service will continue to operate from Cornerstone House until the end of May 2008. Alternative venues for this service after this date are being explored.

Courtyard Cafe

The Courtyard Cafe will continue unaffected, continuing to provide a wide range of meals and snacks at good value prices. The cafe also doubles up as a cyber cafe, offering access to computers and the internet. The cafe is a venue for lunch clubs, breakfast clubs and cookery demonstrations.

Craft Club

The craft club will continue unaffected, continuing to meet weekly at Newstead Miners Welfare Community Centre. This group who have a wide range of craft skills, go on outings and excursions to craft fairs and exhibitions or whatever takes their fancy.

Young@Heart

If you are over 50 and still young at heart then this could be the group for you. Meeting weekly on Tuesday mornings, the group participates in fun sessions. The aim is to keep you supple, especially if you are concerned about falling. No need to attend every week. The cost is £2.50 per week with transport and a hot lunch provided.
The project will now be delivered by a number of volunteers and their dedication is greatly appreciated.

Women in Newstead

This group is now running as a Women's Institute. The WI will be open to all women in Newstead regardless of age. The group holds its meetings at the Station Hotel, Newstead between 7pm and 9pm on the third Monday of the month.

Citizens Advice Bureau

This outreach service continues to be available in Newstead.
Drop in sessions are held on Mondays between 1pm and 3.30pm at Newstead Miners Welfare Community Centre.

Gardening Scheme

Newstead Allotment Association now manages the two community allotment sites.

SEXions

If you want to talk about relationships, pregnancy, puberty, good/bad times, sexual, periods, unprotected sex, worries, emergency contraception, STI or other related questions this service will still be provided in Newstead.

Community Ytansport Scheme

The Newstead Minibus will continue unaffected. If you wish to enquire about booking the bus call to find out more. A driver can be provided or free training is available to learn how to drive the bus yourself.
