Newstead Parish Plan 2008 - 2018

Community Safety

Tilford Road

Newstead is a relatively safe place to live for many with few reported crimes. However there is a difference between actual crimes taking place and people feeling safe or confident to report these incidents.
Residents have registered a lack of confidence in the policing of Newstead due mainly to poor response rates to calls.
Newstead, due to being in Gedling borough, relies on Arnold Police Station, rather than Hucknall or Kirkby Police Station’s which are geographically much nearer.

The Police are aware incidents do not get reported but they feel powerless to address issues if people are not prepared to report incidents or give witness evidence.
In 2008 "Operation Tryptophane" was launched by The Police to increase police presence, engage with residents and target anti-social behaviour.

What you said-
"More police officers should be visible to deter crime and anti social behaviour."
" In my opinion this is a very safe village."
66% of respondents thought a neighbourhood watch scheme would be beneficial.

What we would like to achieve

  • Residents and businesses feel safe in Newstead
  • Residents are able to contact The Police Actions
  • Establish a visible police/PCSO presence
  • Set up a “Neighbourhood Watch” scheme
  • Establish a Police Contact point
  • Publicise contact information in leaflets, booklets, newsletter, website and on information boards
  •
