Newstead Parish Plan 2008 - 2018

Young People

Newstead has a large population of young people who benefit from a safe environment to grow up in, but suffer from a lack of access to facilities and rural isolation.

Many young people in the village attend different schools and need opportunities to socialise with other young people in the community, other than "hanging around on the street".

The Skate Park and Hut are well used by the young people in the Village and their friends from surrounding areas. As they have no lighting, they are only used to their potential in the summer months.

Many young people, during the consultation of this plan, requested a floodlit sports area, which would not only be used all year round but would also give a place to meet and socialise with others.

The Newstead Youth Centre has gone from strength to strength over the last 15 months and young people have been very busy participating in many projects and successful funding applications .

The Youth Centre’s young people were involved in a funding application for £30.000.00 for a full refurbishment of the youth centre. The alterations were completed in March 2009.
This project has enhanced the quality of the building and will hopefully encourage more young people and the community to utilise the facility.

Newstead's young people have been involved in many other projects and within a year gained them 30 Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

The Youth Centre is currently open on Wednesdays and Thursday Evenings from 6 pm-8.30 pm with an average of 15 young people attending.

The NAGS/Church Group have helped two young people with their goals for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards through meetings and activities such as organizing fairs and fetes. The Church group meet every Monday night between 6.30-7.30.
